The most common phrase about perception is that perception is reality. What I believe is that we have a reality about perception that most of us fail to see.
In human relationships the most difficult notion to understand is this:
Our own perception matters very little in relationships of the heart or of the soul. It is really the perception of the 'other' person that matters most. When we concentrate more on this all relationships will become more palatable.
A quote:
All we have to believe with is our senses,
the tools we use to perceive the world: our sight,
our touch, our memory. If they lie to us, then nothing
can be trusted. And even if we do not believe,
then still we cannot travel in any other way than the road our
senses show us; and we must walk that road to the end.
~ Neil Gaiman
Truly all we have our the senses that God gave us. There is of course the sense in our 'gut' that small still voice that warns us or tells us what we should do. Often in matters of the heart we don't listen to that small still voice. We run about with our emotions and try to fix what may not want fixin'.
So the 'reality of perception' is quite simple. Listen to your senses, all of them. Go about your daily duties with no thought about changing the worlds view on you, or your actions. Go about your daily duties with the idea that you can make the worlds view on you with a kind word, a smile, your actions, your deeds and your prayer.
The single most effective tool to getting what you need to me is prayer. The prayer for wisdom, for opportunity to make a difference in another persons life. To be that light that shines in a world of gray and darkness.
The world has a lot of good. A quote shared here:
Instead of the usual standard of good and bad,
ask how beautiful something is
and whether it makes you happy.

There is much more to share on this topic of perception and I will in the coming weeks. But for today maybe this is enough.
