Staying in Focus on Sunday *New* 06/19/11

Happy Sunday to you all !  Smiles and well wishes sent to all the Dad's out there, Happy Fathers Day to you.  The role of a parent is the most important role today, more important than ever with all the distractions that surround the average child.

Think about it the news offers little to offer comfort.  The radio offers a wide array of lyrics that can even confuse our youth or put them astray even more.

My Sunday posts under the new title will hopefully encourage us to focus during a time when so many distractions can blur our thoughts and our direction.

So with that I share this quote and power thought as a guide for this series of posts.

"Too often in life, we focus on the things we cannot do.
Sometimes we cannot do things because of
financial limitations, health limitations, family limitations,
educational limitations, and so on.
Sometimes, we end up limiting ourselves from
achieving success in reaching our goals."
~Catherine Pulsifer, from What You Can Do

Ouch!  Yeah this one hits close to home at times for me.
Hey, sorry, yeah I know exposed a ding in my armor to you the reader.

Stop!  There are quite a few flaws and that is part of being human. Many times as I type, the keys are just pushed by my fingers and the inspiration flows from someplace else as I automatically type this out, faster than my own ideas can arrive.  I often read what I have typed and said....'where did you get that?' Did you write this, knowing full well that I just did.

Yes I try to fall in line with my posts and yes sometimes the distractions of life cause the picture to be blurred.  Not a very good excuse at all so this post is written even for me to reread and think upon.

Being a parent is not easy at any stage of history.  But now, even more the adversity we all face can cause us to loose focus.

Being positive with out children.

Being a parent not a friend.

Leading from our values and our beliefs with conviction to help them improve as they grow older.

Staying in touch with the changing landscape all kids are facing each day.

Paying attention to changes in attitude and comforting them as they cross each important milestone in life.

These are just a few critical points we all face as parents.

Dad's role has been hampered by divorce, both parents working, layoff's and fear of layoffs.  Dad has even more distractions and moms have many of the same obstacles in place.

But there is hope......

Strategy #1  Pray

With out prayer and communication with gratitude for what God has given we will surely stay distracted.

Strategy #2  Communicate

Not much to explain, when times our tough we need to calmly communicate even more, goals, desires, intentions, and instruction. If you don't communicate these things how do you expect them to fall into place?

Strategy #3  Love each other

A single power word that demands our attention. Love when present is truly a bandage and a tool to right the ship.  If shared and presented on a daily basis it will improve and define the parent child relationship and the results from communication.

You can't force love, you just give it anyway.

Strategy #4  Make time for each other

There is only so much time in the day to get things done.  We have vacations that at times go so quickly, weekends are often a blur, and work dominates our time more than ever.  Time is a precious commodity.  We can't buy time.  We can't stop time.  We can't bargin with it.  Time just rolls on and keeps no score for anyone.  We can either focus on making time for each other or watch the ship that love keeps righted turn into rougher waters.

You need to get ahold of your priorities and make time for your family.   Ouch! I said that? LOL  Yeah time does not cut me any breaks either.

Step # 5  When in trouble repeat step 1

Simple as that.  Five steps to staying focused. With focus comes clarity.  Clarity of purpose and design.

God designed us to be productive and to improve what has been given to us.
To watch over and to protect and to cherish.

So Happy Fathers Day !

My time with you today has reached its point.  Time to make breakfast : )
