Flowing into Friday ~09/17/10

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to another awesome weekend! Time to share with loved ones, time to share with nature, and maybe even a chance to make a difference or the very least share a smile. The simple act of sharing a sincere smile, a kind word or comment or lifting a burden off another's shoulder. What power we hold within our hearts and motives.

Life Motives that is what today's post is all about. First lets define the six human needs that Tony Robbins famed author and speaker writes about in Unleash the Power Within.

These 6 needs are as follows:

Certainty/Comfort. We all want comfort. And much of this comfort comes from certainty. Of course there is no ABSOLUTE certainty, but we want certainty the car will start, the water will flow from the tap when we turn it on and the currency we use will hold its value.

Variety. At the same time we want certainty, we also crave variety. Paradoxically, there needs to be enough UNcertainty to provide spice and adventure in our lives.

Significance.Deep down, we all want to be important. We want our life to have meaning and significance. I can imagine no worse a death than to think my life didn't matter.

Connection/Love. It would be hard to argue against the need for love. We want to feel part of a community. We want to be cared for and cared about.

Growth. There could be some people who say they don't want to grow, but I think they're simply fearful of doing so—or perhaps NOT doing so. To become better, to improve our skills, to stretch and excel may be more evident in some than others, but it's there

Contribution. The desire to contribute something of value—to help others, to make the world a better place than we found it is in all of us.

So those are the needs, human needs very real, very clear yet as some can imagine they can be carried by each individual with different levels of fulfillment.

Now lets define the word motive.

motivation: the psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action;

that which gives purpose and direction to behavior; "we did not understand his motivation"; "he acted with the best of motives"

In law, especially criminal law, a motive is the cause that moves people

to induce a certain action. ...

So motives are really at the heart of every action that flows with human intention. Motives are behind the alcoholic as he picks up and downs his next drink. Motives are behind the needle that shoots up the next high or the obese not from an overactive thyroid or other medical reason but behind that extra serving or 'comfort' food that passes through its mouth.

Motives the reason for a successful season and the reason for pure self sabotage.

A need not being fulfilled.

A smile not being shared.

Love not flowing freely.

Gratitude and appreciation not understood.

With the power of gratitude comes the understanding of what we have, not what we lack. The human needs for survival are very clear, air, water, food, shelter. These needs are met or death arrives early. But what about someone who lacks just significance?

What death do they suffer and how soon?

The smile and a kind deed can change a view and a motive to follow, an action prevented.

Now yes the cynical side of everyone is present at work, the what are they up to attitude and the they don't really mean it that some heart has put walls up around the real spirit.

It is not ours to tear down everything, we start with our own walls and barrier's and remove them because we are grateful that we can. We emphasize through actions our walk and our talk and we shine the light on the terrain, so that another can see the path and in time choose the path.

We are the light, the lighthouse that I have shared in past post's.

We are the action that gives the reaction.

We are the difference maker.

This Friday make a difference. No matter how small or tiny the difference a difference you will make.

Smiles to you all! : )
