Good morning everyone and welcome to Monday! Hope you enjoy today as many of you may be off as it is Columbus Day.
I remember as a child learning about old Chris and his fleet of the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria sailed the ocean blue in 1492. Well as we get a little older and wiser maybe we find that old Chris found the land alright and it was also occupied by the Vikings and the indigenous peoples who had discovered the Americas many years thousands of years before. It became a state holiday in Colorado in 1905 and a federal holiday in 1970.
So I think all my daughter really cares about this is she is off today. Me, I know that no bills will be landing in the mail box.
So today I wanted to share a little video about another discrepancy that is pushed on all of us but mainly affects the youth of our world. The portrayal of women, young in the media as a whole give a message to our youth that is in reality unattainable. The video shows a average girl going through make up and hair to be photographed only to be, well take a look at it and see how our youth can so easily be impacted.
I watched this a couple times and then I watched it with my 15 year old daughter.
She is a very beautiful girl but her real beauty is not what is shown on the outside, it is what she gives from the inside.
Your children, whether a boy or girl should watch this. The push on the media for unattainable beauty has been around for years. But in our generation the 60's and 70's the advent of computer enhanced beauty was not widely used. The impact is being felt now and only with education can we help our teens.
A quote on beauty from Emily Dickinson:
"Beauty is not caused. It is."
And lastly by Hellen Keller:
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.
So share this today this may be the best discovery of all.
Till next time..... Smile and shine your beauty
from within!
