Happy Thursday Everyone and Welcome to Cinco De Mayo!
The story behind the day? It is in celebration of Mexico independence from Spain. Which was not May 5th at all it was Sept 15, 1810.
The actual holiday is really from the major battle with the French on May 5, 1862 at the Battle of Puebla or as called in Mexico "Batalla de Puebla."
History reports President Lincoln couldn't aid in the battle because of the Civil War in America. So the Mexicans had to wage the fight alone against a large French contingency. The won the battle and held back the French that day, even though they were outnumbered and poorly armed and prevented the French from entering the capital of Mexico.
Thus the reason that May 5th or Cinco de Mayo is celebrated.
So as your eating that tasty Mexican dish or drinking that awesome beverage you can understand the holiday that we revel in each year on this day.
Other than the great day in history another great day, my wife Janice's son Blake turns 14 today.
