Happy Friday everyone and welcome to the weekend. The weather was awesome it so happened to be on a Thursday and as you know I was off. Smiles for miles was my motto yesterday.
Perhaps the most heart wrenching story this year has played out and will continue to play out for years to come.
No its not the nuclear meltdown in Japan, which is awful, tragic and little could have been done to prevent, nature happens.
No its not the war on the Ivory Coast and the 1000's that were slaughtered at the hands of the ousted regime. We slaughter 1000's during the civil war and both families lost brothers and sons to war.
It is the story of a 25 year old woman, mother of five who drove her mini van into the Hudson river attempting and successfully killing her 2 sons age 5 and 2 and her 11 month old daughter. Her 10 year old son, pushed down the window and swam for shore, some 20+ yards and ran looking for help. His name, Lashaun Armstrong, 10 years old with so long a journey ahead, full of hope and promise and love if he accepts it. But will he accept it or will he accept blame, fear, and replay the incident over and over and over.
The sad parts of this story, there are many but perhaps the saddest is that the 25 year old mother of 4 was a co worker, a neighbor, a friend to someone if not many.
She even took the time to apologize on Facebook.
She even took the time to call some and an Aunt tried to call out for help 15 minutes before she drove into the river but she was too late.
The chance that you can make a difference in someones life is not a chance at all. It is a reality. You have so many eyes that will graze your face each day. Will they see a smile? Will they garner your attention not that they are consciously looking for help, perhaps they are but for many they are just like you trying to get through the 86,400 seconds we are all given.
For this 25 year old woman, maybe a smile, a conversation, a kind word or a touch may have altered her course, her direction.
She had a job, she was going to school and juggling 4 kids.
She had in her mind no other option in her mind and killed 3 of her four children. But options were there.
Sometimes we are the ignition that helps the flame of possibility.
We just common people can make a difference.
Sometimes its just a smile.
Sometimes a smile and a kind word and a gentle touch.
Sometimes just an ear that listens and give some direction, or a prayer.
Go gently into your Friday.
Go with purpose and maybe just maybe you will get that chance to make a difference, that in the end will make all the difference.
Have a great Friday everyone!
Just flowing into Friday with you and sending you a smile along the journey.
May your smiles abound.
May your joy lift another spirit.
May you stay hungry and stay foolish!
May your heart be warmed because it always was.
Smiles sent your way this day and always!
Happy Friday everyone! : )
Some thoughts on sharing a smile, your smile with so many who come within your circle of influence.
Till next time....share a smile, make a dream come true and make someone's else a bit happier.
